Our Community Projects
Our members have supported a wide variety of “projects” since the Shed was created. Over the years we have supported our local schools and learning centres, community houses, refuge centres, charity shops, and other not-for-profit organisations, as well as supporting regional communities affected by natural disasters.
All projects are reviewed through a “Projects Committee” before any major engagement.
Early PNMSA projects
-
Blairgowrie Community Garden
Blairgowrie Community Garden members were looking for some help building their fixed raised garden beds. With the help of a few of our members, we soon saw the boxes created and filled with soil ready for planting.

Sorrento Primary School Bell Restored
The Men's Shed was asked if they could restore an old school bell long forgotten in a storage shed. We went a bit further and built a tower to house the bell. A great team effort and even today the bell has become part of the school daily routine.
-
School Entrance
St Josephs Primary School asked for an update to the front entrance to the school. Brian and Ian sourced some old timber and repurposed this to the very neat bench seat now at the school.
-
Sandpit Diggers
Sorrento Pre-School asked if we could repair the diggers in the sandpit. Thank you Peter Moore who took the diggers and brought them back to life.
-
Multi level Planters
Sorrento Primary School loved the multi-level planters and asked for 4 more. Time for some extra hands at the shed creating the planters.
-
Minnow Restoration
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron asked if we could restore a “Minnow” and return it to the club as a training boat for junior sailors. It took a while but the boat did get back to the BYS.
-
Beach Clean
We were invited to be a partner in 2 local “Beach Clean” programs.
We supplied A-Frame boards, buckets and tongs to both Rye Community House and Capel Sounds Kindergarten.
Great artwork was done on all boards.
The kids did the rest!!

Billy Kart Derby
In 2019 and again in 2020, the Shed engaged in raising money for drought and bushfire relief for farmers in Gippsland. Bunnings had provided some kart kits which were assembled and sold to happy competitors.
A huge success with no casualties and the pleasure of handing over $3,000 to the relief funds.
