Why a Men’s Shed?

A number of men in our community are facing significant life changes, including ageing, health, retirement, isolation, unemployment, disability and separation. A Men’s Shed will provide a venue to share those life experiences in a more relaxed environment.

Our senior citizens have considerable wisdom and life skills to pass on to younger generations. The Shed will be a place where men involved in raising families and facing workplace challenges can engage with retired blokes. Retirees have the time to work with our local community groups and schools, creating ‘hands-on’ cross-generational relationships.

Point Nepean Men’s Shed Created

The idea of a Men’s Shed in this area began in 2013 and was revived in 2018. A short survey was sent to the Sorrento Community Centre members to gauge the level of interest. An analysis of over 70 responses showed considerable interest in the creation of a Men’s Shed within our local community.

With the backing and support from the local community, Federal and State Government politicians, and the Mornington Peninsula Shire, the Point Nepean Men’s Shed Association (PNMSA) was established.

A steering committee was appointed to manage the establishment of the PNMSA and the search for a “home base”.

Early meetings were held at the local golf club until we were granted access to the Hangar on the clifftop at Sorrento, the former home of the Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad.

Where we are today

Our membership has grown to over 100 members and over 70 associate (social) members.

We have also extended our facilities to include a workshop in the Stringer Road Reserve, Blairgowrie and a “Mobile Workshop” based at the Stringer Road workshop.

Members are engaged in a variety of social gatherings, a music group, a motor group, a camping and caravan group, woodworking, card nights and community and local school projects.

We are always open to new activities of special interest as raised by our members.

PNMSA 5-year Strategic Plan - 2025-2029

Welcome to the Executive Committee for 2025

Stringer Road Reserve Shed

The build has been completed and we are ready for those small assembly projects. The car hoist has been installed and is often in use by the members. With a compactus and plenty of shelving available we can keep things a little more organised!!
A refresh outside has been done and a new garden bed installed.

Stringer Reserve is now the
“home” for the Mobile Workshop.

Our Home Base is at 4 Hotham Road Sorrento, the former
Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad helipad.
We are opposite the Hotel Sorrento and right next door to the Sorrento Police station.

The building has gone through a few upgrades since we took over the lease in 2018.

The Mobile Workshop

In 2019, the PNMSA created our “Mobile Workshop” to enable us to take on more of the off-site construction/maintenance requests from the local community.

The van certainly gets noticed in its fresh new colours.
